1 in 700 children are born with cleft lip and/or a cleft palate. It is the fourth most common birth defect in the US. A cleft lip or palate is treated with surgery; preferably the surgery is performed soon after birth or in early childhood. I know all this because I am a proud mother of a child born with cleft lip and palate.

Differences can be creative and flourish into greatness. The wondrous creativity and ingenuity of modern surgery, correcting a child born with cleft lip and palate, is truly remarkable. I have witnessed first hand the loving skill of the doctors at the UCLA Craniofacial Clinic and “The Facing Forward Foundation,” and I am very grateful! My journey has empowered me with strength and compassion. I am so fortunate to have a handsome, healthy and intelligent son who is thriving at University!
